Learn why electric scooters are the most environmentally friendly and efficient mode of transport for our cities!
Electric scooters are a booming new form of transportation, and there is a good reason for it. Apart from being versatile and cost-saving, they are also incredibly positive for our environment in our cities. This is why:
Low energy use: Electric scooters use very little energy per km of travel compared with cars, and busses. In comparison, for 1km of travel, an electric scooter will use approximately 60,000 joules of energy. Whereas, a small car would use about 1,000,000 joules. That's about 16x the amount!
Powered by electricity: Electric scooters use lithium-ion batteries for energy storage much like a Tesla. So they are emission-free. In cities that utilise renewable green energy, such as solar and wind, charging and riding an electric scooter will have an almost zero net impact on the environment.
Saving space in a dense city environment: As shown in the picture above, the amount of space on the road taken up by one car can be utilised by up to 10 electric scooter riders. Electric scooters are more versatile, can be ridden in tight laneways, or in-and-out of traffic. (To learn more about the electric scooters available at our store Click Here)
Saving space when parking: Electric scooters require less than 1 square meter of floor space, and can be folded down. They can be easily stored at home or in the office under a desk, or in a cupboard. In comparison, cars require a parking space of up to 25m2.
Safety: Electric scooters are lightweight and not too fast. Generally, with a maximum speed of 25km/h, they are fast enough to beat cars in a city environment, but not too fast to be capable of causing significant harm to riders or pedestrians. Having a lightweight low-profile frame means hitting pedestrians or falling off is less dangerous.
Can be shared more easily: Electric scooters can be shared amongst friends and family without much risk. Keep one at home, use it over the weekend between the kids. Ride to the local shops or shopping centre.
Affordable: Fewer resources are used in manufacturing and assembly than compared with a car. Better for the environment, and save money for more essential experiences with family and friends.
There is no doubt our cities of the future will significantly benefit from new forms of efficient transportation, such as eScooters. Councils and governments are moving in the right direction, despite some more slowly than others. However, at WalkSmart, we agree that taking the time in changing laws regulating these new modes of transport is essential to ensuring a successful future!
Disclaimer: WalkSmart recommends that you check your local state laws and regulations in relation to using electric scooters in public locations, roads and footpaths. Laws vary state by state and therefore may limit use to private locations only. Each local body is reviewing public electric scooter use, so we expect it to be regulated, but legal in all states within the short term. Feel free to contact WalkSmart if you have any questions.
